Ha, cool. I was going through issues of NOISE Control (gotta love the caps) earlier this week for a paper I'm working on and I also noticed that quote about the bawdy sound of the cocktail hour. Great post!

Thanks for sharing this, Nick. We're all embarrassed by our undergraduate theses! I really enjoyed reading it, actually. It seems like you were quite passionate about Reed, Akita, and Grandmaster Flash at the time, which is awesome. And the critique of acoustic ecology, obvious as it might seem in some circles, isn't actually that obvious to most people.

It turned out to be a rambling way of figuring out that what I really wanted to study was media. Nominally, though: an exploration of the co-history of noise and recording media.
